Progress over perfection: a gentle nudge forward

Yes, I know we covered this last week. I've continued giving tiny tips on how to manage time and stress while making progress. And now we're covering it again from a slightly different angle because I got to thinking - what if it's the getting started, not the getting it finished that's the problem? So, this week we're going to CHEERS to getting started.

I could be completely wrong for your situation, but sometimes we feel like we have to wait until we feel completely ready, fearless, or "perfect" before starting. I've been guilty of that too and then I facepalm when it's done over how much quicker / easier it was than I expected. So … this is your reminder that none of that is required. What is required? Just a tiny, honest step in the direction of where you want to go.

Perfection is loud and demanding—it says “don’t mess up.”

Progress is quiet and consistent—it whispers “just keep going.”

We know how intimidating it can be to show up, especially when fear is riding shotgun. But progress doesn’t ask for perfection. It just asks that you try.

So here’s a gentle list to help you push forward—even when fear shows up.

5 Things to Try When Fear Tries to Talk You Out of Progress

  • Break it down smaller. If it feels overwhelming, it’s probably too big. What’s one tiny step you can take today?

  • Name the fear. Say it out loud. Write it down. Fear loses power when you call it what it is.

  • Create a ‘messy’ version first. Give yourself permission to make the draft, the test run, the imperfect start. Clarity comes from action, not overthinking.

  • Celebrate the try, not the outcome. Reward yourself for showing up, not for getting it “right.” Progress is made in motion, not in results.

  • Remind yourself who you’re becoming. Perfection wants to keep you frozen. But progress? It’s helping you grow into exactly who you’re meant to be.

Wherever you are right now is enough to begin. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be fearless. You just have to be willing. And I promise, once you take that first step, so much fear weight will drop right off your shoulders because you'll realize YOU'RE DOING IT!
